Unofficial set list and report from the VIP section of the Starland Ballroom for Friday's LOD, a Writer's in the Raw format:
An itimate setting, attentive but spirited crowd for the 6 very different musicians.
Wedged in-between Joe D'Urso and Willie Nile, with Spanish guitarist extraordinaire Jorge Otero behind him, Joe played 3 tunes from AGL:
A Good Life
Beauty Fades
Too Hot to Think (he assured the audience that the song was NOT autobiographical!)
For the round of cover songs, he chose the Rolling Stones' Wild Horses and was backed up beautifully by Otero on guitar, while others on stage chimed in on the chorus.
That's the joy of this format -- musicians spontaneously jumping in on each other's songs,jamming.
Ohter highlights: Smithereens frontman Pat DiNizio's "folk ballad" version of Black Sabbath's Paranoid!
This set ended at about 12:30, with Joe leading everyone (including the artists from the first set, which I didn't see) in Light of Day.
I'm sure tonite's show will have a very different flavor. Can't wait to read about it tomorrow.

A final note on the NPR feature. It was NPR's third most e-mailed story of the day. So a lot of NPR listeners shared Joe's story with friends.
