Aaah the 70's! A defining decade in Rock-N-Roll. I was a product of the 70's also, however, it was the music of the 60's that moved me the most. Stones, Beatles, Clapton, Dylan..Peace Signs, and Hippies. A great era to be brought up in.

The Raspberries: great pop songs, great vocals, great production, and killer guitar sounds. Too bad Capital Records didn't know how to market these guys.

Excited to see a show at the Cadillac Lounge, Toronto in May .. for anyone in need of a road trip this spring..Sammy is a gracious host his venue reminiscent of the Decade..The city is well worth the short drive..I made the trip last fall.. If anyone interested I'd be glad to offer some info on Hotel Accommodations....And info on boutiques and art galleries ...Toronto is a major scene for the performing arts..World culture and natural history museums..And for you sports fans.. The Hockey Hall of Fame is downtown.. Then a sort cab ride to the Distillery District for sample beer at the cities many small breweries.. So did I convince any of you?? its just Down the Road A Piece

Great gig at Twin Oaks. Thanks for coming out. It was great to see everyone.
Unsung hero division: Scott Kempner and the Del Lords. I always saw them as NYC's version of the Houserockers. Two of the best shows ever at the Decade was a Del Lord show and the night Scott played with us.
Teen bands: How about the Dave Clark 5? Their singles sound (sonically ) better than all
other Brit invasion bands except for the
Beatles. Good luck finding them tho.
Here's some NEW dates.

Sax legend Michael Brecker passed away on January 13, 2007 after a long battle with leukemia. Michael was a major influence for me and one of the most influential modern sax players of our time. He will be sadly missed by so many...includng me. My prayers go out to his family, his wife and kids and his brother Randy as well as his many contemporaries and friends. Rest in Peace Michael. God Bless you.

DannyG, there's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying the music of the Monkees. They really did have some great songs with some strong production behind them. I'll go you one better, though. My first favorite musical group was the Archies. I had all their albums and even some 45's cut out of the back of cereal boxes. I recently tracked down an Archies Greatest Hits CD and cannot begin to tell you how often I've played it. After reading the liner notes that came with the CD, it's amazing to see how many talented musicians and songwriters worked behind the scenes to make this "kid's group" such a success. If you even remotely liked the old bubblegum rock of the late 60's and early 70's, I recommend tracking down this "guilty pleasure". You just might be suprised how much you'll enjoy it!

Back to the best records etc. A friend of mine brought it to my attention that I left off the most influential record(s)/band from my list.
The reason that I started to play guitar in the first place when I was 7,8 and 9 years old was I wanted to be a Monkee. Yea, you heard me. I know they didn't play their own instruments until the third record (Headquarters) and I know they didn't write their own songs (they had Neil Diamond, Carol King, Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart writing for them)but they still motivated and inspired me enough to pick the guitar up. The second record (More of the Monkees has some killer tracks on it...especially Neil Diamonds Mary, Mary and She)
Later, session ace Tommy Tedesco tears up the spanish flavored Valerie. The Monkees was my very first concert ever. I saw them at the Arena in 1966. When I saw 16,000 screaming girls that pretty much sealed the deal. So, I stand corrected and humble myself by admitting that the Monkees have to be on my list.
