So what 5 songs would you consider to be absolutely essential from "End of the Century"

The last time we were at the Twin Oaks the place was packed. Great crowd, vibe was happening. Don't miss it. I'm still looking for people to take a road trip for this weekend, though. Iota should be rockin'. I'm looking forward to meeting up with my friend and provider of much appreciated CD's from VA, Richard and his wife. Can't wait to get dinner Rich! See yunz!

GRUSHECKY: THE DOCUMENTARY

"A Good Life: The Joe Grushecky Story," a documentary from Flat Broke Productions, is now in post-production and is due later this year.

Steve Caniff and Jim Justice of Flat Broke told "Backstreets", the Bruce Springsteen fan site, "Joe catches a lot of flak for his relationship with Bruce, for whatever reason, and one of our goals in the film is to show the talent Joe has and what his relationship with Bruce is really like."

Springsteen will appear in the film and even give Grushecky some credit for reuniting the E Street Band. Steve Cropper, of Stax fame, and pro skater Mike Vallely were also interviewed. The documentary might be packaged with a Grushecky "Essentials" CD.

J Hawk you are correct Bruce was indeed in Pittsburgh Saturday night, St. Patrick's Day. He had
dinner with a party of five (including one of his agents apparently) in a
well known, upscale Italian restaurant in Beachview. Beachview is about
five minutes from Dormont, where Joe Grushecky lives. I know all this
because my sister was his waitress! By all accounts he was very gracious
with everyone and accommodated all photo requests. My sister has a nice
photo of the two of them together. My sister called me right away to let me
know he was there. Not wanting to intrude upon him, I immediately went onto
Grushecky's web site and saw that Joe was playing a great club called the
Beach House in Finleyville PA (about 20 miles south of Pittsburgh).
Assuming the best, I went to the show, hoping to relive some of those great
bar duets Bruce and Joe have performed (Marz, Tradwinds, Fat City etc), but
alas he was a no show. The nasty snow storm that night may have had
something to do with it. But Joe sounded better than ever. I hope the
documentary does him justice.

Jeff&Karen;
Regarding the (lost?) post about the documentary possibly being teamed with an "Essential Joe Grushecky" CD, it's time to start putting our collective thinking caps on for what songs should be included. I would think that it would contain songs that are representative of all stages of Joe's musical career. Assuming it's a collection of 18 songs (a typical essential collection), here is my list (at least as of today): 1) Hideaway 2) Junior's Bar 3) Pumping Iron 4) Blood On the Bricks 5) Never Be Enough Time (either version) 6) Rebel Music 7) How Long 8) Swimming With The Sharks 9) Talking To The King (live Version) 10) Chain Smoking 11) Labour Of Love 12) Everything's Going to Work Out Right 13) Fingerprints 14) I Will Not Let My Spirit Fall 15) Long Way To Go 16) A Good Life 17) Code Of Silence 18) Good Bye Steeltown It's certainly not easy to sum up Joe's great music into just 18 songs and I had to leave out some personal favorites, but I think this would be a pretty good representation of Houserocker songs to get the message out to the masses. Anyway, we're really looking forward to the documentary and hope to be in the 'Burgh in May for the Carhops show (still haven't been there and it sounds like a great place to catch the guys live.
