DVD Update:

The footage we have for the DVD is amazing. You all will love it! I am going to Cincinatti this weekend to finish the promo clip for the DVD. I suggested to Joe to put it in the new video section of the site so everyone could see it. The title is "Shot of Salvation". I don't want to give a date that it will be finished because knowing me, I'd miss the deadline! As a good friend of mine is fond of saying "You can't rush excellence!" hehe I'll keep you posted on our progress.

The Top 50 creative forces in Pittsburgh
Sunday, June 05, 2005

By Marylynne Pitz, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

There's an old joke that says God so loved the world that he did not send a committee to redeem it.

So, as a committee of Post-Gazette Arts and Entertainment staff members drew up this year's list of the region's Top 50 creative forces, the argumentative assembly of critics, scribes and sages decided that this time around, our rankings should emphasize artists and people who make significant artistic decisions. (You, the readers, will decide if this committee is worthy of redemption.)

Such a list is, by definition, arbitrary and results from numerous debates in a conference room where participants champion their favorite candidates, dissent, disagree and joke while consuming bagels, salsa and chips, pizza and that omnipresent newsroom snack, cake.

Note the name change for the Top 50: Many donors and benefactors, business administrators and programmers did not make this year's list because we made the switch from "cultural" to "creative" to give artists a bit more sway. But if a leader's artistic vision or persona guides and informs the programming of an organization, we have done our best to salute his or her efforts. Also, instead of designating categories as in recent years, we have returned to a strictly 1-through-50 ranking, for you list purists out there.

We recognize the indispensable support of individual and foundation donors and the work of folks like Ann Mason (Renaissance & Baroque Society), Larry Kuzmanko (free Citiparks concerts), Sherrie Flick (Gist Reading Series), Gary Kaboly (Pittsburgh Filmmakers) and others, but this was the year to herald other contributions to the arts.

#40. Joe Grushecky
Rocker
The veteran Pittsburgh rocker doesn't have the actual Grammy to show for it, but he co-wrote the song, "Code of Silence," which won Bruce Springsteen the honor this year. In December, Grushecky brought the Boss in for Flood Aid at Heinz Hall, a benefit that raised $255,000. Also in December, his life as teacher-by-day, rocker-by-night was featured on CNN's "NewsNight with Aaron Brown."

Joe - The trip to Tahoe to hear you guys was fantastic. A fantastic place to relax and let it all hang out yet, still hear your favorite music live. There was no doubt that the crowd (and it was a big one both nights) loved you guys and want you back. I heard several comments on how great it was to hear real rock and roll. Thanks again and I hope LeeAnn had a great birthday.

Does anybody know if there was a video made of the Flood Aid show and, if so, how I could get a copy. If not a video, was there a tape/cd made?

Thanks.

I read in today's Asbury Park Press that the Writers In The Raw series will be resuming (see link on Web Page Address line).
Joe's appearance in Writers In The Raw last summer was terrific - I hope ... well you know.

Mark,

Yes I do have a copy. I dug it out and digitized it last night. It is not the best sounding boot but it is Kool just as a document of that era. It is an audience recording that some friends and I made at a bar called the “Winner Circle”. If I remember correctly “The Winner Circle” was in Betel Park on route 88. I think it was recorded around Thanksgiving of 1985. The set list is very cover heavy but there are also some Joe classics we all know and love and some you may have forgotten about.

Shit no, don't worry about it. Live With Me would be awesome too. Hearing Art tear into that opening bass line would be cool. You have that on a boot?
