Spoken like a true Democrat jumping to conclusions. I never said keep politics of the board. I said YOUR politics. The politics of placing blame where it doesn't belong. More accurately the politics of blaming Bush for everything. Which is what you did in that last post and so many others. The difference between your post and Joe and Bruce's music is that theirs is thought out and makes sense. It comes from both the head and the heart. Your rants don't. They come from a kneee jerk reaction and a desire to push your agenda. You assume I want to control the board's content. I didn't say that. You assume I'm Republican, wrong again. You want to insert politics into this board. Make sense with what you say. I think Bush's reaction after the fact has been lacking to say the least. That was not what you commented on in your post. I would ripped a Republican who tried to defend Bush's lack of action by saying his attention was diverted by Cindy Sheehan or that it was God's way of punishing the sinners in New Orleans. That would make as little sense as you trying to make it sound as if Bush could have mystically known how damaging Katrina actually would be. By the way as late as Tuesday the Democratic mayor of New Orleans was saying that everything was ok and under control. I guess he was wrong. Hard to blame national politicians when the locals sit back and do so little. Now before I go back to the Go-Go's board, Mark, be more like Joe and Bruce and aim a little more carefully. Oh and Keith, Great post! I couldn't have said it better myself.

BTW, if you really hate politics in your music, it must kill you to listen to "How Long" or "End of the Century," huh?

If you want an artist’s message board that is free from political discussion, maybe you should visit the Go-Go’s website!
Richard asks Mark, “Why can’t you keep your politics off this board?”
Mark responds “Maybe because Joe doesn't keep it out of his music.”
Regardless of anyone’s politics, Mark is absolutely right! Like it or not, Joe’s music deals with political issues, life and death struggles, and social injustice. One can just imagine the folks in New Orleans chanting “How Long. . . . Do They Expect Us To Take It” as they wait for some semblance of organized relief.
Whether Joe intends his music as a political statement or social commentary does not matter. Maybe his lyrics are just words that fit well together, rhyme on occasion, and flow with his guitar licks. Maybe. . . . . but I doubt it. The power and passion of Joe’s music has to come from the heart. . . .from a life of experience. . . . .and from deeply held convictions.
Does anyone doubt that when Springsteen sings “Forty-One Shots”, he is not commenting on police brutality and racism in our society? Or when the Stones sing “Sweet Neo Con” that they are not commenting on a bureaucracy run amok? I have always believed that Rock and Roll had the power to transform people’s thinking. . . .to deliver an important message. . . . and to be a voice for folks who don’t have a voice! Hell, Rock and Roll started as political statement!
I think this message board is an appropriate and indeed welcome forum for folks to discuss politics. It is in the very nature of Joe’s music.
By the way, I love the Go-Gos!

If you read my prior posts, you will see that I hold Democrats accountable as well. There were a lot of screwups in this situation. The looters were among them, they were making a bad situation worse. But understand, there is a difference between the thirsty man looting for bottled water, and the hood looting for TVs and radios. Big difference. But my initial point being....if we can be "pre-emptive" about war and send tons of people over to bomb the hell out of Iraq, then certainly we can be pre-emptive in helping our own. And I'm sorry, but our governement has failed us by not doing that.

Mark you're brain damaged

gee a Democratic governor in Lousiana, a basically Democratic slate of state representatives who have been told for 30 years to fix the levees...seems like we're pointing the finger in the wrong direction. Mark you need to learn that Republicans and Bush aren't the root of all evils. It's a hell of a step up from the clown we had for the 8 years previously...

First thing Richard...who put you in charge of the content on this board (a Republican thing to do by the way, trying to control what people say). Yes prior administrations neglected funding that would have helped limit the destruction-no question. But where was the proactiveness on the part of the current administration in doing something before the disaster hit? Why weren't we trying to bus people out of there sooner? And you know, I have no desire to see Bush flying around there in a helicoptor now, surveying the damage. Where were you before BOZO? I'm not trying to advance any political agenda. And if you must know, I am working to help, participating in various telethons, as well as other activities that I don't feel the need to tell you about. Why can't I "keep my politics off this board?" Maybe because Joe doesn't keep it out of his music. He's not afraid to ask the hard questions. And as American citizens, we shouldn't be afraid to either.

Yeah, Mark, great news about Fats. And Katrina might be the greatest tragedy I've ever seen in this country. Almost as great a tragedy is your attempts to place blame on President Bush. You've watched to news lately. Maybe you should read a dictionary while your watching. Does the word "unprecedented" have any meaning to you? There were plans in place but no one expected the devastation that occurred. If you have to blame anyone, blame all the administrations, past and present, local and national, Democrat and Republican, that failed to upgrade the levees that were built to withstand only a category 3 hurricane. Blame the looters that took law enforcement away from the Super Dome or search and rescue. (Don't hand me the hungry and thirsty argument. You don't eat Nikes or guns or sleep in TVs.) Blame God if you have to blame someone. How about instead of pointing fingers, focus on what can be done now. Taking political advantage of this tragedy and placing blame where it doesn't belong makes you no better than the looters, killers and rapists taking advantage of the people that have already suffered enough. One last question. Why can't you keep your politics off this board?

Great news....Fats Domino has been found. The Fat Man was MIA in New Orleans, but apparently was rescued by firemen. Fats is widely acknowledged as having recorded what some consider the first rock and roll record "The Fat Man." It's a shame...all this news coverage, it's hard to take your eyes off the TV. It is just unimaginable the shape that New Orleans is in right now. What is even more incomprehensible, is the fact that there are so many people either dead, or still stuck in New Orleans. Some people didn't have the means to get out. It's disheartening that a country the prides itself on its "freedom" and it's caring and compassion for others couldn't find it in them to have a plan in place to help these people before disaster struck. And yes, in this case, when I say "this country" I am referring to the current administration. Sad.

Looking forward to the Stone Pony show - how about a couple True Companion songs that the Stone Pony crowd hasn't heard (or at least in a while), A Shot of Salvation and What Gives. Sound good on the Five Alive in Spain CD. I hope Xavi might consider sharing on this website some of his video footage from last month's Ohio show (please??). Fun show, can't beat those outdoor venues.

Zeke...Buddy Guy has a blues club there, and there's also a cool little rock and roll club called the Double Door. The Stones played a surprise gig there several years ago.
