As long as someone is a regular poster about the music, I don't find it bothersome if they go off topic once in awhile.

I remember when this is use to be a music site....now it's great that we get to hear everybody's politicial agenda. Oh yeah, Joe has a song about frying hot dogs in a pan so maybe someone can post some views on pork products. Then add some links to other food issues and tie it all together under the big umbrella of Joe's music deals with the complexities of nourishment...all of which is obviously a definite game of opportunism. Just like the folks who feel the need to be heard on these issues HERE--there is no difference. See, it's not that the issues aren't important or even relevant, it's the cheap open door to bring it into this forum. Maybe someone can start a new site where Joe's music and travels are discussed rather than personal agenda banter from both sides of the politically corrupt. Again, there are worthy issues to discuss but why come here to do it? Global warming diatribe on Joe Grushecky's site? Capital punishmnet, abortion, death tax, health-care, assisted suicide--what's next? Maybe every once in a while someone could mention that someone has an upcoming gig in New Jersey this weekend. I need to go so i can get my next post ready...you see there was "blood on the bricks" so i'll get my gun control links and talking points in order for future notification here. This is the correct place to do it--right?

Zeke, with regard to your comment about the increase of Atlantic Ocean hurricanes and the theory of Global Warming, please follow the link below. You may wish to re-think your position.

ZEKE

Finally, some action!!

I don't blame Bush for all of this. However here's where he is at fault.

1) Appointed his college roomate head of FEMA with 0 experience in emergency/disater services. When he left to start a company to supply the troops he appointed his buddy's friend whose only experience was as his number 2.

2) Chopped 10 billion off of Loisiana's request for money to fix the levee.

3) Has all of our National Guard in Iraq instead of here where we needed them.

4) Said, "We were shocked the Levee broke. " He was sent a memo titled "New Orleans levee will break at category 4 or 5 storm" by his own people.

5) Gave rich people a tax break instead of fixing ancient infrastructre all over the country.

6) Doesn't beleive in Global warming which is causing these hurricanes.

7) Put FEMA under homeland security.

8) Just sounds f#ckin stupid.

Number 6 is probably my biggest bitch. Huricanes need warmer weather. We don't have them in the winter. The Gulf of Mexico is 1 degree higher than 30 years ago. Not a bid deal unless you're a hurricane.

Global warming is caused by gas, which also is the cause of our war. Clearly you have to say if tree hugger Gore (loving said) had won, we would be using less gas.

Not to say that this would be all good, but wouldn't it be great to say to the terrorists, "stick your gas up you a#s, we don't need it." Also according the author of New Orleans Drowning (published 2001) these storms are going to get worse due to global warming caused by our tailpipes and other things.

Back to Labor Day, already in progress.

"If your guitar player can't play the right chords, you call in Bill Toms."

That has to be, without a doubt, the greatest thing I have heard this weekend....thanks Keith.

Music post lovers may skip this; politics lovers read on. Chief Justice Rehnquist just passed away. Another friggin opportunity for George Bush to stack the big bench with ultra conservatives. Who will be the new chief? Scalia? Say goodbye to your rights. Let's hope the new Supremes really do uphold the law, and not rule according to any personal agendas.

Whether you're a Bush supporter or not. Liberal? Conservative? Doesn't matter. Post your real name, or use a juvenile epitaph like "Mark is brain damaged".

The bottom line is that the most powerful nation in the world; the richest country in the world; the strongest army in the world; all took over 5 days to get any organized relief to tens of thousands of people. 5 days!!

Why point fingers now? So that it doesn't happen again! If your mechanic screws up your car, you get a new mechanic. If your doctor misdiagnoses a life-threatening disease, you get a new doctor. If your guitar player can't play the right chords, you call in Bill Toms.

The problem with our society in general is that nobody wants to be held accountable for their actions. Would Kerry have done better? It doesn't matter. What does matter is that the current response has been slow, disorganized, and fatal for many poor people who's only "safety net" is our federal government. The current response happened on Bush's watch, under Bush's administration, with Bush's hand-selected appointees.

If we don't seriously examine and critique why the response has been so slow, the next time a disaster or terrorist attack occurs, it might be our own families that are shooting each other for water. . .or watching grandma dehydrate in her wheel chair at Heinz Field.

We should expect more, and indeed deserve more, from the greatest nation on earth.

PS: Mark, if you "really" are brain damaged, you're in good company. And besides, at least you haven't forgotten your real name.

At least I don't stoop to the level of calling you "brain damaged" when I disagree with your points. On the maturity scale, my 5-yr old son is light years ahead of you, my friend.

Nothing better illustrates the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of liberals than their reaction to this disaster in the Gulf Coast region. The only thing they can do is finger point, blame President Bush, rather than directing their concerns and energies constructively toward solving the problem. Instead of being part of the solution, they compound the problem by politicizing everything about this. "Bush didn't adequately prepare for this by getting assets into place, and he isn't doing enough to rescue the people already there." All they know how to do is to hate Bush. They have no solutions, other than "Kerry would have been better and faster"...

only somebody that is morally bankrupt would stoop to the level of using a disaster as an excuse to blame a president he doesn't like, instead of being constructive.
