That was nice that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame had the good sense to showcase Joe and the Band. We all know what a treasure they are. But museums and rock and roll go together like vampires and sunlight.rock and roll should run screaming from that "institution." Like Ray Davies said at the Kinks' induction: "Rock and Roll has become respectable. What a bummer." Amen.

Regarding the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, following is a Letter-to-the-Editor, that I had published in the December 15, 1995 edition of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Grushecky Rocked The Hall: On December 2, 1995, I had the opportunity to visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. The Hall of Fame, in itself, is exciting enough, however on this particular Saturday, visitors were treated to a special performance of Pittsburgh’s own Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers as they kicked off a new “unplugged” series at the Hall. Playing to a sold out audience, Grushecky awed the crowd with acoustic versions of songs from his latest release, “American Babylon”. In our world of MTV demagogues and top-40 automatons it was an epiphany of sorts that the shrine to rock and roll should play host to an artist who has faithfully produced critically acclaimed music for 20 years without ever gracing the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine. After the show, Grushecky signed autographs as the Hall of Fame’s PA system roared with cuts from “American Babylon”. A footnote in the history of rock and roll perhaps, but more importantly a triumphant moment of recognition for a man and the power of his music. If you don’t own a Grushecky album, you might want to check out what the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame seems to have finally realized!

While not in Pittsburgh, the Houserockers were the first band to ever play at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Just keep playing live, there is nothing like a live show.

I played the first ever show at Starlake along with the Houserockers and Donnie. Last shows at # Rivers, Holiday House , Rosebud, The Anchor Inn,and the Decade. There is a video of the "POLKA." We may have to post it on the site. I've played the IC Ampitheater with Bob Dylan, Stevie Ray, Little Feat , and Bonnie Rait.

Last Gig at Three Rivers Stadium. I was there, Steelers/Redskins, last pro game ever. Steelers paraded out former players after the game; my brother got down and kissed the ground on our way out.I nearly cried. But Joe and the boys did indeed play that day; it was freezing cold, and there was a nasty rain coming down. What stands out was a version of "Gimme Shelter".absolutely PERFECT for this kind of day, and they had Donnie Iris singing backup. All in all, a memorable event.

You could also add Star Lake/PG Pavilion and IC light tent. Benedum gig was with Bruce on Tom Joad tour. I'll never forget that cause my girlfriend at the time (Wife now) got the tickets which were hard to get. When we got there we sat directly in front of Joe and most if not all of the Houserockers. I hadn't met any of the guys yet, so it was pretty cool. Joe and Bruce opened the encores with Homestead.

I believe the Polka was captured on video. I think there was a film crew there from NY/NJ. At least from what I remember. Many beers that day!

I heard Joe played a polka at that gig. I wonder if there is any video evidence of that?
