Thank God we stopped the political talk here. We now get one post a day. Joe has a new box set out, is breaking in a new guitarist and is collaborating with Bruce after 12 years.

Too bad the free speech storm troupers took the wind out of this place

Too loud, Too old
Hey Zeke, I think the band had to play loud due to the disco bass on the wall behind them in the back room.

Ditto on last night at the RH. I didn't do the set list cause I got there late.

The set was loose and loud. real loud, like "I'm getting old loud."

A loose and somewhat cover oriented set featured great interpretations of Mustang Sally, Dirty Water, Gimmee Shelter (always a highlight), Twist and Shout/La Bamba, Down the Road A Piece, Hideaway, and many great originals. Always glad to hear Shape I'm In.

No songs from the new cd were played except for Code of Silence.

There were some cute girls on stage hiding behind Joe but I'm not sure who they were.

For anyone who missed last night, they were rock'n! Packed house and lots of dancing. Nice to see old friends and fans. See you at carhops.

I remember David Conrad being in Biddle last summer for the "Houserocker's Summer Picnic". It's great to see local talent returning to their roots.

Here's a review from the Post Gazette on Thursday's reading performance. American Shorts Reading Series
This series takes endless joy, it seems, in tackling America's greatest, perhaps most infamous, traditions.

Having covered "Sin," "Compulsion," and "Hazards" last year, the series opened its fourth season Thursday night with "Soundscapes," an exploration of the connection between literature and song that called on Pittsburgh natives Joe Grushecky and David Conrad to read pieces about, (what else?) Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' Roll.

The venue was right, too: The new South Side studios of WYEP-FM.

Iron City Houserockers frontman Grushecky opened with a hilarious take on Rick Moody's short story "Wilkie Fahnstock: The Box Set," a rambling musical "biography" of fictional Everyman Wilkie Fahnstock told through the liner notes and track lists of his 10-cassette music favorites.

While the rocker read, images of the track lists flashed on a screen, and snippets of the story's key songs were played.

Grushecky's rich, gravelly voice blended surprisingly well with guitar riffs from 1980s hair band, Poison.

Conrad followed with an except from what he called the "gay bible of the '80s," Christopher Coe's "I Look Divine."

The novella charts the physical decline of formerly young and beautiful Nicholas through the eyes of his enthralled -- and appalled -- brother.

The story, though on the long side, provided a refreshing glimpse of a book lost prematurely to literary obscurity, and Conrad performed with the polish of a stage actor (which he is, though you can catch him now in CBS's "Ghost Whisperer").

Singer-songwriter and recent Pittsburgh transplant Steven Foxbury played a live set on acoustic guitar as well, providing a sweet, lilting articulation of the night's theme.
