Another Voter....You had hoped for "unbiased discussion??" What do you consider unbiased? If someone disagrees with you, then they are not unbiased??? WTF? The arrogance is frightening! Throw out a statistic, but damnit, be ready when I look into it a little deeper than you cared to, and tell you what it really means. Freakin' arrogant Republicans...you don't agree with them, and they call you biased, or claim that rock stars tell you how to think. I prefer to question, I feel that it's my responsibility as a patriotic American. You wanna swallow everything hook, line, and sinker? Fine with me. All that means is....you swallow.

Sorry, but I need to put in my two cents! I’m a self proclaimed “radical independent!” I must say that I see both parties are the playground for radical extremists… They win elections when they sucker us in to voting for them. There really isn’t much difference between the two extremes. But I must say that the right tugs at the fears of white folk, and the religious voters. It is painful that religious the right preaches intolerance and encourages hate. High jacking Christianity for the right is a sin. Jesus was probably the first true socialist. The left get votes by keeping people down by offering handouts. Both want to control us in one way or another. Both set us up., even for those who know their tricks. Old man Bush started the globalization’s “New World Order.” More room for the Corporatism to increase the bottom line. Clinton the “Democrat” (a great republican president, ) sent hundreds of thousands of job south with NAFTA. That is why we have millions of illegal aliens here working for low wages and helping to destroy the middle class. You can blame them though. They just want to make a living! Bush and Clinton before him helped the push to open the border. But for unemployment, the numbers mean nothing. If less that 5% of the work force is without a job, great, but how many burger flippers can we support in this country. May good jobs are being outsourced over seas to increase corporate profits… Remember, if you don’t have a job in two years or so, you are removed from the unemployment numbers… There are hundreds of thousands of Americans who can get work, but are deemed hopeless. Keep the faith and remove the fascists and push for the reasonable moderates from either party… ROCK ON….

POLITICAL FOOTBALL
LOVELY POSTS ON HERE. I GUESS I'LL HAVE TO GO TO A POLITICAL SITE TO FIND OUT WHERE BILLY TOMS IS NOW. GOD FORBID IF WE DON'T PLEASE OR AGREE WITH THE HALL MONITORS ON HERE TOO. MAYBE IF SOMEONE COULD DISCUSS SOMETHING WITHOUT CHASTISING THEIR OPPONENT, IT WOULDN'T BE SO BAD. CAN WE IMPEACH SOME OF THE BLOWHARDS ON HERE?

We are not experts on politics. We don't profess to know everything. We are neither "Liberal" nor "conservative" (probably somewhere in the middle. We thought that overall, Clinton did a good job in office. Unfortunately, too many people judged him purely by his personal life (which was admittedly less than stellar). However he was brought up for impeachment because he lied about having sex in the whitehouse! The "conservatives" had a field day with that! That didn't get thousands of U.S. soldiers killed , did it? G.W. lied about why we had to go into Iraq (9-11, WMD's, etc.) and you're considered an "unpatriotic, terrorist-loving, liberal" if you voice an opinion against it. We personally know and love plenty of family and friends that have been sucked in by the conservative TV and radio personalities like Rush and Hannity and wonder how they can continue to defend and support W after all that has happened, but they do and we forgive them. How would things have been if Kerry had won the election, we may never know. We wish the Democrats would speak up more and present some possible changes,Kerry did and all anyone looked at was the few things that he rightfully changed his mind on and labeled him as a "flip-flopper" or something stupid like that. he stood up for what he believed in,as a young man by throwing away his medals (which he EARNED in Vietnam) and was labeled as unpatriotic. He came out and said that, although he didn't believe in abortion, he didn't feel he should take that right away from women and he was labeled as an athiest. There are so many more, but I think we've said our piece. Yes, we think it's definitely time for a change, unfortunately, this country is in such a mess that it's going to take quite a while to get it back on track, nomatter who gets elected. But the same arguments and discussions will continue just as they always have. That's why sometimes it's great to just let it go and be thankful for the good things in life, like Joe Grushecky and the Houserockers. Now maybe we can get back to the music, which is really what brings us all together on this website (or at a Houserockers show) in the first place.

I forgot to mention - from another voter
The unemployment rate during Clinton's first term (since you only mentioned his 2nd term)

1991 6.8
1992 7.5
1993 6.9
1994 6.1

ps. The best thing Clinton did during his two terms was to leave most of Reagan's economic restructuring policies alone!

Another Voter
Ave-Last Year in office
Carter 6.7-5.8
Reagan 7.5-6.2
Bush Sr 5.8-6.8
Clinton 5.6-4.2
Bush Jr 5.1-4.7

I suggested looking at the whole picture, 4.7 to 4.2..?? Compared to history they are indicative of a good economy..

I had hoped for a unbiased discussion.. I don't have more time for this.

Yeah, don't bury the message with data, facts should never get in the way of a good argument. Ahem.
The recent unemployment numbers don't come close to the last day's of Clinton's term. In '98 through 2000 unemployment rates never went higher than 4.6% and was often much lower than that. Since 2001 (GW's first inauguration) unemployment has been over 5% for 49 months, and has been often at or over 6%! The only time unemployment was low during GW's tenure was immediately after he took office, which speaks more to Clinton's impact that it does GW's! Consider the fact that fuel prices are at an all time high, and health care costs (especially for the elderly) are through the roof, and your argument about the robust economy seems, well, kind of weak. Nice try though.

Squirrel Hill Voter
Mainstream press gives W high marks on economy. Witness multiple quotes from sources of all political ilk writing and saying Bush's poll numbers are low "despite favorable economic news." True, it's not perfect, but this economy is better than it's been in a long time. (Just for the record.)

There are a number of ways to measure an economy. For example, unemployment rate, 4.7% this year, which compares well to the late 1990's when many applauded the economy during President Clinton's time in office. You can't have it both ways.

Did not want to bury the message with data.. If you are truly interested, http://www.bls.gov/home.htm and try to keep an open mind while looking at the whole set of facts..

"Our Nation is in great condition and the economy is a good as ever (saying something bad, does not make it bad, you have to look at facts!)."

You make a statement like this, yet YOU provide NO FACTS!! Oh the hypocrisy. The economy is good? OK, where's the proof? Let's hear it, the liberal realists are all waiting for this....Maybe what you meant was, life is good if you are in the higher income bracket, or if you happen to be one of GW's wealthy buddies. Ah, the hypocrisy....your statement about the economy reminds me of another lie stated by a famous Republican; a lie, that just like yours, had absolutely no basis in fact. You might remember it, I believe it went something like this:
