In regards to Mark and Dave O's relentless comparison of the Stones and Zep. Apples and Oranges my friends. Having seen both of these great bands live, I can only recall both shows were absolutely incredible. Different strokes for different folks.

You know Joe's would have biased views on that. He hates Zeppelin.

How can you make the claim that Plant was the best singer in his day....Based on what????? Geez, Jagger, Daltrey, Paul Rogers, or any other number of rockers could make that claim. I'm not cheap, I just prefer to spend my money wisely....You should know-the extensive Stones collection that I have which you always borrow yet never buy yourself. How many Zep recordings do you own...You're as cheap as the day is long!!! Yeah, "In the Evening" now there's a good one. "Ohh I need your love...Oh Oh I need your love." It must still kill Bob Dylan that he didn't write that line.......LOL. I'd love to hear Joe G's thoughts on the Great Zeppelin debate.

How can you say that Mark, he was only the best singer in Rock in his day. As far as the live performances there is hardly any footage. If you werent so cheap you could buy How the West Was Won and a Great show from Royal Albert Hall in 1970. Zepp was known for hard hitting Rock numbers, In the Evening, Communication Breakdown, Immigrant Song ect. Some of the Best Ever

One of my knocks against Zepplin is that Plant often times can't keep up with his "style" of singing. In many live performances I've seen, he sings in a different key than what's on record, many times not even trying for the high notes that are the trademarks of some of their songs. My guess is that his voice was enhanced BIG TIME in the studio, that's why I find a lot of their live performances unmoving. In that regard, I'd think that there are many rock and roll bands/singers that could easily do something like "Rock and Roll" or "Dancing Days". I just think that as far as the songs themselves, they're a bit too long, and boring, and that a band like Zep is not as near as prolific as the Stones, Beatles, Kinks, or even Springsteen.

Doesn't "Idiot's Delight" sound a bit "How Many More Times?"

I'm just saying that Zep isn't covered often, because vocalists can't keep up with Plant's style of singing. PF isn't covered much due to the elaborate keyboarding, and David Gilmour's diverse style.

A cover doesn't have to be a straight copy, or emulation. It can be a complete re-interpretation of the song. Check the Housrocker's second attempt at Light of Day, or the Stones version of Buddy Holly's Not Fade Away. Hell, half of Zeppelin's songs were complete ripoffs of old blues tunes, so technically, they qualify as well!
