Joe - Just bought a copy of "The Magnificent Seven" off of Yahoo Music. Incredible! Fantastic! Once again you have outdone yourself! Only YOU could do justice to this classic by The Clash! Now if you could just do a tribute to Kansas! Keep on rocking! You are the best!

New news! Joe and I will be doing a benefit for Make-A-Wish this evening at the Hard Rock Cafe. It should be a great event. Saturday is a private show at Heinz Field. Next Sunday is the Annual Polkapalooza Summer Jimmy Sinclair Beerfest. Great food, lots of beer and music by the Knobs and the Houserockers. Last year was amazing. I still didn't score any pigs in a blanket recipes but there's always this year. I'm arriving early and staying later this year. Then we're off to Vegas where I have two missions. A new tattoo and a quest to see how many Vegas showgirls I can squeeze into one hotel room. Sort of like the Clown Car you see at the circus. Joe just booked the Cadillac Lounge in Toronto for October 6. I love Toronto. It's my favorite city. Sammy, here we come!! So, this patient says to me. "What's up the hair?" "I'm letting it grow out. Why?" "Last year it was cut short and looked nice. Are you going to wear it in a pony tail?" "No. I'm just going to let it hang in my face." "Well, I don't like it." She says. "Well. I don't care." I replied. "How rude!" the woman says to me. I'm still laughing. That was two days ago. Peace and out.

Great Article on Joe and the band from The Aquarian (New Jersey). I think it's one of the better articles that I have read about Joe. Enjoy! Joe Grushecky And The House Rockers/Live! At The Wonder Bar 7/7/07 A lot of journalists use the same catch phrases to describe Joe Grushecky—“the underdog” or America’s “least known” cult musician—and in the same breath gushingly blurt out the Springsteen connection. I know Joe and Bruce are good friends and frequent writing partners, but I see similarities beyond this general comparison that have more to do with what he has in common with the many important story tellers as a group rather than a single individual. Sounds complicated right? Well, when you sit down and actually remove the preconceptions about this guy and listen to the music, you’ll see that Grushecky shares compositional space with several traditional American songwriters including Bob Dylan, John Fogerty, John Mellancamp, Levon Helm, Bruce Springsteen, the late great Billy Chinnock and other roots based rockers—blues, folk, rock and country—all embraced and practiced as a whole. And like these great artists, he has his own unique interpretation. And that’s the key sentence here. If you were looking for a closer description of the man, the music and the band, then this particular Saturday night was the place to be as Joe Grushecky And The House Rockers were roarin’and ready to go Asbury Park style. Welcomed with open arms on this hot July night at The Wonder Bar, The House Rockers blazed through a set of classic gems that included songs from the Iron City House Rockers’ albums as well as Joe’s newer material. including tunes from the latest disc, A Good Life. Mixed with a few well thought out covers, the band churned it out “old school” style to the 400-plus crowd who simply ate it up fast and demanded more. I really liked the interaction between The House Rockers, many who have their own unique history, including Pittsburgh’s own Iron City Original Art Nardini (brother to my old friend Norman Nardini of The Tigers fame) on bass as well as Joe’s son Johnny Grushecky, an accomplished and upcoming guitarist in his own right. Joe and Co. moved The Wonder Bar crowd along with top-notch tunes like the Dylanesque “Beauty Fades,” with its introspective view on life’s curves and swerves, and the big bold Warren Zevon vibe of “A Good Life,” as well as cool covers like “Dirty Water” by The Standells. The show had to be one of the largest successful turnouts for The Wonder Bar this summer, thanks in good part to Tony Pallagrosi, former Asbury Juke and owner of the well known Concerts East. With high quality shows like this, I can only hope that he stays involved throughout the area. Joe’s career path has produced some interesting stories and successes over the last 28 years or so, such as working with Steve Van Zandt, Ian Hunter, Steve Cropper, Mick Ronson, and the ongoing collaborative partnership with Springsteen, starting around ’95 and continuing to this day with Joe’s CD, A Good Life, which includes “Code Of Silence,” a tune that was co-written with Bruce Springsteen and sung as a duet with him as well. Joe Grushecky also has a documentary film on his lifetime accomplishments called A Good Life: The Joe Grushecky Story, a project from Flat Broke Productions, which is now in post-production. I spoke with Flat Broke Productions partner Steve Caniff who told me, “The reason we took on this project is because we felt that Joe’s story is an important one and needed to be seen/heard outside of Pittsburgh. On paper, he may just appear to be another ‘almost made it’ musician, but he is so much more than that. He has touched the lives of so many kids throughout his career as a special education teacher, while at the same time never giving up on his passion to create and play great rock-nroll music. Think about it, one day he is on stage with a music legend in front of 30,000 people and the next day his stage is a small classroom filled with kids he supports both scholastically and emotionally. It takes a special person to do that. Jim and I both believe his story is one of passion, determination and success, no matter how it’s measured.” Flat Broke is planning on a late summer/early fall release. Joe plans on including an essentials CD with the DVD, and the film will be sent to festivals across the US and Europe. Interviews with Steve Cropper (Booker T And The MGs, the Blues Brothers and Staxx Records), Mike Vallely, pro skateboarder and lead singer of Revolution Mother and of course his good friend Bruce Springsteen are included in the film. The Iron City Houserockers got their big break with manager Steve Popovich (who got Boston their big break), got a deal with MCA in 1979 and were overnight critical faves. A well known national magazine gave Love’s So Tough, the band’s debut, four stars, and called the blistering follow-up, Have A Good Time (But Get Out Alive)—produced by Mick Ronson, Ian Hunter and Steve Van Zandt—a “new American classic.” From collaborating with the music industry’s biggest names, to being in the trenches everyday as a teacher, as well as having a new documentary focusing on his historic career, Joe looks to have a firm grasp on what he’s accomplishing in his time. Joe Grushecky will be making an acoustic appearance in Atlantic City on Sept. 21 at The House of Blues, opening for John Cafferty and Beaver Brown. And don’t forget that the new CD is available at Vintage Vinyl, Borders, FYE, Amazon.com, iTunes and grushecky.com.You can view the film trailer on the web at flatbrokeproductions.com
