Connie, I beleive if you go back in the guest book Bob or Joe gave the date. I think it's only natural to tout anything new as the best - and that's good. However after you live with it for a while, then you can get perspective. What's great is that for two cd's in a row - Joe's proved not only that he can still do it but he can do it well.

I think Mark makes a good point. As great as "A Good Life" is, there are too many wonderful records by Joe to say this is his "finest". As it was mentioned earlier in this guest book...Joe's catalogue of great music is extensive.

"A Good Life" is without a doubt a fantastic record, and something that Joe has every right to be proud of. I agree with all the positive comments, and am right up there with all the enthusiasm surrounding this release. I will, however, stop short at calling this "Joe's best" or "Joe's finest work" (with all due respect to Keith, my future campaign manager). To claim this is Joe's best does a disservice to great records like "End of the Century" or "Have a Good Time..". And it also belies the fact that Joe is one of those artists who consistently produces strong records that add to and enhance his body of work. To me, "A Good Life" is not the apex of his career, but rather, another cannon in his arsenal. The fact that Joe can put out something as powerful as "A Good Life" this far into his career is a testament to his ability, as well as his passion-there just aren't that many artists still capable of hitting a homerun this far into a career. Can't wait to hear how this one plays live. Nice work, Joe.

Keith your the greatest with words. I think the Post Gazette should hire you for the entertainment reviews. Your passion for Joe's music really shines! You say everything that I want to say but can't put into words. Love reading your comments.

To "another fan", I'm frightened that you know even know the names of the boy Mousekateers. I only know of Britteny and Annette...and even then I'm kind of ashamed of myself :)

Joe's finest Thanks to Scott Mervis for his great review of Joe Grushecky's new album, "A Good Life" (For the Record: 9/7/06, Sept. 7). There is going to be a lot written and a lot said about this album, but honestly, no matter how eloquent the speaker or how poignant the words, few if any descriptions are going to do justice to what I believe to be Joe's finest work ever ... his magnum opus. Words are simply inadequate instruments for capturing the emotional levels, spiritual planes and physical chills that "A Good Life" elicits. In a day and age dominated by fear, ambiguity, and despair, Grushecky has once again given us something to talk about; something to sing about; something to shout about; something to wash away the weariness and remind us that it is indeed "A Good Life." You go Keith. I'd be anxious to know about opening act etc just to tell my babysitter. I have to think the previous poster was kidding. Although N synch could really add something to Joe's work. I can hear a doo wop version of Lake P. or some great dance steps to Safe at Home.
